The NT1-A is a 1-inch cardioid condenser microphone with a gold-sputtered capsule and a self-noise floor of just 5 dB(A) - among the lowest of any studio microphone ever measured. Its frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz with a gentle presence lift around 3 kHz. Ships with shockmount, pop filter, and dust bag. Requires 48V phantom power.

Key features

  • 10-year warranty from RODE
  • Frequency response 20 Hz to 20 kHz

  • Shockmount, pop filter, and dust bag included

Our take

The 5 dB(A) self-noise is the headline spec and it is legitimately impressive - you can hear the floor of digital silence rather than the microphone. The NT1-A rewards good rooms: it picks up everything, so reflections and noise will be captured with the same transparency as your voice. Voicing is slightly bright and present, which works for most spoken-word content but can feel aggressive on sibilant voices. The included accessories bundle is generous and immediately usable.

Pros

  • 5 dB(A) self-noise is exceptional at any price point
  • Generous included accessories - usable out of the box
  • Warm, present vocal sound with controlled low-end
  • RODE 10-year warranty

Cons

  • Requires a treated room - captures ambient noise with equal fidelity
  • Requires 48V phantom power
  • Presence boost can be harsh on bright or sibilant voices
