Check price on AmazonThe Rode AI-1 is a single-channel USB-C audio interface in an all-aluminum chassis that supports 24-bit recording at up to 96 kHz. One Neutrik combo XLR/TRS input handles condenser and dynamic mics via switchable 48V phantom power, while two balanced TRS monitor outputs and a discrete headphone output round out the I/O. It is class-compliant and bus-powered, meaning no drivers and no power brick.

- Includes Ableton Live Lite license
Our take
The AI-1 is what you buy when you want a serious interface without a serious footprint. The Neutrik input sounds genuinely clean, the aluminum body feels far more durable than plastic competitors at this price, and zero-latency monitoring works without software. The single input is the obvious limitation - but for a solo show, it is all you need. It has been largely superseded by the updated AI-Micro in terms of headline features, but the AI-1 holds its own for desktop use.
Pros
- Solid aluminum build that outclasses plastic competitors at the price
- Class-compliant and bus-powered - plug in and go on any OS
- Clean preamp with zero-latency monitoring for comfortable recording
Cons
- Single input only - no path to grow to a two-mic setup
- No onboard gain indicators or visual metering
